The Best Restaurants of Piedmont

Some of the best restaurants that Italy has to offer can be found in Piedmont. The eating establishments available to you may be a little more traditional and authentic than those in places such as Florence and Rome but that doesn't mean you should avoid them. Let's take a look at some of the best.

Dei Cacciatori da Cesare is the best place to find truffles if you're after a luxurious taste of Italy. The head chef here uses truffles as the base for many of his dishes and complements their intense flavour with local, simple ingredients. The restaurant is always popular, even though it's not an obvious choice for passersby since there is no sign outside, so it's worth ringing ahead to check on availability. It is also closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays.

Gener Neuv offers something a little bit different if you're a little bored of the standard Italian fare on offer around the country. The restaurant looks very medieval and fits in well in the beautiful town of Asti.

The Monte Rosa Animal Reserve offers visitors a walk that will occupy a leisurely few hours of an afternoon in the region. There are stews and truffles on offer on the extensive menu and you'll be given a very warm welcome by the family who run this place.

There are cheaper options if you're travelling on a budget, such as the pizzerias that sit unashamedly on the hills of Monferrato, but it's worth saving up for at least one meal at the restaurants mentioned above because they really do offer a taste of something authentic that you don't get everywhere in Italy and certainly don't get in the "Italian" ready meals you can buy here from the supermarket.

Andrew's reply: Thank you for the really informative article Charlotte. What you say about the restaurants tending to be more authentic and traditional in Piedmont is very true. That is why eating in Piedmont is so wonderful. Many of the dishes you'll likely have never heard of but invariably they'll be superb.
