MiOMyItaly & ItalyMammaMia Issue March 2026
March 01, 2026

Ciao,

Every now and then Maria and I sit with a coffee (or a glass of wine) and start reminiscing about the places in Italy that truly touched us. Not necessarily the ones everyone talks about… but the ones that felt real, warm, and deeply personal. Recently we were laughing about a trip we took with our dear friends Guido and Federica and it reminded me how special Italy’s lesser-known places can be.

So today I wanted to share three destinations that capture that quieter, more authentic side of Italy, places that slowly work their way into your heart.

Italy’s Best Kept Secrets

Memories of traveling with our dear friends Guido and Federica always make me smile. Guido and Federica have traveled everywhere in Italy, and Guido has now kindly agreed to share some of his favorite places with you. You'll find them all here.

Gorizia — Italy with a Central European Twist

And then there’s Gorizia, a town that surprised all of us. Tucked near the Slovenian border, it feels like a meeting point of cultures, histories, and cuisines. There’s a calm, reflective atmosphere and a sense that you’re discovering somewhere still wonderfully authentic. Elegant streets, a castle watching over the town, and cafés filled mostly with locals… I really love spending time here.

Here's my Guide to Gorizia.

Lucca — A Tuscan Town That Gently Steals Your Heart

Lucca is one of those Tuscan towns that gently steals your heart rather than overwhelming you. Walking along the tree-lined Renaissance walls is one of my favorite simple pleasures, watching locals cycle past and families out for an evening stroll. There’s elegance here, but also warmth. Lucca is the kind of place where you sit down for lunch and suddenly realize that three hours have passed.

More about why I love Lucca here.

Before I go…

Many years ago, traveling through Italy with family and friends, watching William and Matteo racing ahead through ancient streets while Maria and Federica compared notes on local bakeries, reminded me that the best trips are never just about destinations. They’re about shared moments, small discoveries, and the people we meet along the way.

As always, thank you for being part of our journey.

Un abbraccio forte,
Andrew & family
