Ciao, A few evenings ago Maria and I were sitting outside a little café watching people stroll by during passeggiata time. Nobody seemed in a hurry. Elderly couples walked arm in arm, children chased pigeons across the piazza and friends stopped every few steps to talk. It struck me again how different life can feel here. Not perfect, of course… but slower, warmer, and somehow more human. So this week I thought I’d share a few places and experiences that capture that feeling beautifully. Assisi – More Than Just a Beautiful Hill Town
There’s something very peaceful about Assisi. Perhaps it’s the stone streets glowing softly in the evening light, the silence that settles over the town after day visitors leave, or the views stretching across the Umbrian countryside. Even William noticed it the first time we visited. He was unusually quiet, simply taking it all in. Of course many people come because of St. Francis, but even if you’re not religious, Assisi has a calmness that stays with you long after you leave. Join me in the amazing town of Assisi. Tuscany – The Italy So Many People Dream About
Tuscany feels almost unreal at times. The rolling hills, cypress trees, vineyards, and little medieval villages somehow look exactly the way people imagine Italy should look. But the secret is not trying to “do” Tuscany quickly. Some of our happiest memories are simply getting lost on back roads, stopping in tiny villages for lunch and discovering places we never planned to visit at all. If Tuscany is on your dream list, this guide will help you plan your visit. One of Italy’s Greatest Joys… Train Travel
One thing I always recommend is to slow down and enjoy Italy by train whenever possible. Some of our loveliest memories involve train journeys. Watching vineyards roll past the window, arriving in beautiful old stations, chatting to locals and seeing parts of Italy most tourists completely miss. Train travel here still feels wonderfully civilized somehow.
I’ve put together some of my favorite routes here.
That’s all from me this week. I hope wherever you are, you’ve managed to find a little beauty, good food, and perhaps a slower moment or two for yourself.
