Ciao, from a very grey and rainy morning here.

The kind where there’s nothing better than curling up on the couch with a cappuccino and a good book.

Maria has already claimed her corner of the sofa; William is pretending to read (but I suspect he’s really watching YouTube on his phone), and as we are all reading, I thought, why not share a few books I love with you today? The kind that transports you straight to Italy.

Let’s start there…

A few Italian food books I keep coming back to

Over the years, Maria and I have built up quite a collection of Italian cookbooks. Some are splattered with sauce, others are falling apart—but those are always the best ones.

One of my absolute favorites is “La Cucina: The Regional Cooking of Italy.” It’s not just recipes—it’s like traveling from region to region, tasting Italy one dish at a time. Proper nonna cooking, the way it should be.

And for something a little more atmospheric, I love those regional books—each one telling a story as much as sharing recipes. Browse the full list Maria and I put together here.

And if Venice is calling…

There’s something about Venice and books—they just belong together.

I’ve always loved the Commissario Brunetti series by Donna Leon. They’re mysteries, yes, but more than that—they let you wander Venice properly. The quiet corners, the hidden canals, the real city most visitors miss.

Then there’s “Venice: An Odyssey”—a book that somehow captures the soul of the city better than any guidebook ever could.

If Venice is on your mind, or even just in your dreams, have a look here.

Now… shall we travel?

Once you’ve finished your cappuccino and closed the book, let’s go somewhere a little warmer…

Imagine this:

You start in Rome—wandering past the Colosseum, standing beneath the Pantheon, and ending up getting lost in those cobbled streets where every corner feels like a film set.

Then on to Naples—loud, chaotic, full of life. The smell of pizza in the air, scooters flying past, and history beneath your feet (quite literally if you explore underground Naples).

And finally… Ischia.

Less famous than Capri, but if you ask me (and Maria agrees), far more magical. Lush gardens, little fishing villages… the sort of place where you slow down without even trying.

It’s the kind of journey that starts as a holiday… and ends as something much more.

If you’d like to explore that itinerary, I’ve put it all together here.

That’s all for today.

The rain is still falling outside, Maria is calling me for another coffee, and I think I might just pick up one of those books again…

Because sometimes, the best journeys begin right there on the couch.

Un abbraccio,
Andrew (with Maria and William)
