MiOMyItaly & ItalyMammaMia Issue November 2025 November 01, 2025 |
Ciao,
As I write this, Maria and I are in Trieste's Piazza Unità d'Italia (Italy's largest seaside piazza). It's a warm autumn day, and we are watching the sun sparkle over the Adriatic and enjoying that wonderful mix of Italian and Central European culture that makes this city so fascinating. There’s a gentle sea breeze, the scent of coffee in the air (Trieste takes its coffee very seriously), and a calm that makes it hard not to fall in love with this corner of Italy. While watching the life of the piazza and sipping our cappuccinos, we got talking about how different each Italian region feels: the landscapes, the food, even the way people speak and greet you. From the elegance of Piedmont to the wild heart of Calabria, every region really is its own little world. We'll start with a journey to all 20 regions this month...

Which Region of Italy is Best?
That really is an impossible question to answer. We came up with a ranking system giving points to each region based on the variety of landscapes (lakes, seaside, mountains), how many truly great cities there were in the region, unspoiled villages, the food, and much more too. This is the contentious result. You can vote for your favorite the end of the article. The Amalfi Coast: mapping out where to go...
It’s hard to beat the Amalfi Coast. Maria still insists it’s Italy’s most beautiful stretch of coastline (and I’m wise enough not to argue). Every curve of the road offers another postcard view of pastel towns clinging to cliffs and lemon groves tumbling toward the sea. If you’re planning to visit or just want to dream a little, this guide has a great map and a list of must-see towns, from famous Positano to tranquil Atrani:
Seafood Spaghetti al Limoncello
And since we’re talking about the Amalfi area, Seafood Spaghetti al Limoncello, inspired by the flavors of Sorrento, is our recipe of the month. It’s bright, aromatic, and tastes like summer by the sea.
