My Italy Top Tips, Video & Stories Issue September 2021
September 30, 2021

Slavery, mistakes and stories from Rome; a rather unusual combination this month.

When I first moved to Italy I'd no idea that any Italians were once taken to Africa as slaves, let alone tens of thousands of them. It's a fascinating story and something I never learned about at school.

On a complete different note, in my first six months living in Italy I pretty much made every one of the "mistakes" I mention in this newsletter - some turned out to be rather costly too. Hopefully, I can help you to avoid learning the way I did... the hard and expensive way.

Lastly, we've the inside story on Rome!

Italian Slaves

Ever wondered why so many of the old towns on the Italian coast were built high up on hills and the newer towns are down on the beach? Well, it is because they once lived in fear of their lives. This is what used to happen.

Inside Rome

Rome is an amazing place! Our friend Mark Tedesco lived many years in that magical city and he realized that everything in Rome has a story behind it: the people, the buildings, the statues, even the street corners. Inspired by these stories he wrote a book to capture them forever.

Reading this book will transport the reader into another world and reveal the city through stories that are informative, funny and insightful.

The title of the book is: She Seduced Me: A Love Affair with Rome. It is free for our supporters (if you're not yet a supporter you can join here).

Becoming a supporter costs around 4 Euros a month and I know that not everyone can afford that in these tough times. You can still get yourself a copy of this great book though and I really recommend you do: Here is the link to purchase.

Avoid Making These Mistakes

A few months ago I shared a list of the things Italians NEVER do.

Now we've a list of the things YOU should avoid doing in Italy, some of these mistakes are costly too. I've had to pay hundreds of Euros at times for my failure to obey the rules. Please don't make the same mistake. You'll find the article here.

We've a lot of news planned for the coming months. I can't wait to share it all with you. See you in October!

Ciao
