My Italy Top Tips, Video & Stories Issue May 2021
May 28, 2021

Have you heard the good news? Italy and the EU will be open to much of the world from next month!

A few countries, like Australia and New Zealand, won't allow their citizens to travel yet and some others will remain on the red list; however, it is a big step forward and many can now start planning their next visit to Italy.

Last year Maria and I were against the reopening, despite the cost to us in lost bookings, but this year things are much improved with case numbers dropping rapidly and most people in Europe will be vaccinated by the end of June.

However, if you can wait, then I would suggest you delay travel until late summer - by then any initial challenges will likely be resolved.

With the grand reopening now under way we've three articles you really should read:
1) Unusual reasons to travel to Italy
2) The ten top sights in Italy.
3) How to travel with peace of mind in difficult times.

Why Travel to Italy?

I often get asked by people outside of Europe, those who travel a long way to get here, why they should choose to visit Italy rather than somewhere else in Europe. My answer is based on my own experience. You can read it here.

Italy's Top Ten

This is not a list of the sights that Maria and I think are the top in Italy. Rather, it is a list of the sights ranked by the number of visitors they receive.

You can view the list here.

A Helping Hand in Italy

We are always there to assist our supporters and Secret Italy members. Last year though we ended up helping many other people too, even if they weren't signed up members.

Maria and I felt we had to, many had nobody to help them. Not speaking Italian they struggled - travel agents and airlines were often overwhelmed, embassies too.

We tried our best. Did what we could. It was far from enough and we longed to do more. We vowed that in future we would try to stop people having to go through this again.

We obviously can't prevent disasters from happening, but we could make sure we are all better prepared, heaven forbid, if there is ever a next time.

We understood that we had made a mistake by not mentioning travel insurance on our websites, we always felt it was an optional.

We too traveled without it on many an occasion.

Now we realized it was absolutely vital so we went off and tried to discover a solution.

Here's what we found.
